Scoring / notching / V-Cutting

Scoring is a cost-effective and fast process in the mechanical finishing of printed circuit boards. The X and Y contours of the PCB are scored on both sides using two disk knives and the remaining thickness of the edge is thinned for separation after the assembly process. The PCBs should not be separated manually in order to avoid stress on the PCB and the assembled components, especially the SMD components.

Specification for the design of scribe lines for standard PCBs with material thickness D 1.0mm. For thinner PCBs, please contact the manufacturer.

0,6mm - 1,0mm 0,3mm not recommended
1,0 - 1,2mm 0,35mm 0,5mm
1,2 - 1,6mm 0,4mm ±0,1mm 0,6mm
1,6 - 2,0mm 0,4mm 0,7mm
>2,0mm 0,5mm ±0,1mm 0,75mm

AABUS applies to aluminum PCBs.

Property Definition
W Angle of the scoring tool 30°
S Residual core thickness after scoring D * 1/3 (min. 0,3 ±0,1 mm)
M Tolerance in the offset of the scoring lines from the nominal centerline ±0,2 mm
V Tolerance for the offset of the scoring lines to each other ±0,1mm
Recommended clearance range V/2 on the copper layers of M ≥0,4 mm
Distance from copper surfaces and conductor tracks to the center of the score M ≥0,25 mm
D PCB thickness for scoring 0,5 mm ≤ D ≤ 2,4 mm
Thicker PCBs after consultation with the manufacturer

Unless otherwise agreed, the outer contour of the benefit can also be scored. The distance between two neighboring
PCBs in the panel is 0.0 mm! It must always be ensured that the tolerances of the nominal dimensions may be exceeded due to the roughness of the PCB edge after cutting.

Ensure sufficient distance between the copper surfaces and the contour line.

Note
When using a disk scoring machine, the entire length of the PCB is scored. It can only be used in X and
Y direction.
Single-sided scoring and jump scoring with interruptions is also possible with the modern CNC machines currently in use. The outlet area for jump scoring should be ≥10mm. In exceptional cases, this can be reduced to 8 mm.
